Odour is a
chemical problem.
Organic matter, bacteria and ammonia gas each need a different reaction, it's a matter of science.
A natural mineral that intercepts the smell before it starts.
Brushed into the turf
PETFILL is clinoptilolite, a natural mineral from the zeolite family: minerals whose crystals are full of tiny pores. It's brushed into the turf pile during or after installation, and replaces or tops up the standard infill layer.
Holds urine in the infill
Those pores let the granules work like a sponge. When urine lands on the turf, they soak it up and hold it in the infill, before it can drain through to the backing and sub-base where it would start to break down.
Traps the ammonia
As that urine breaks down, it releases ammonium, the source of the ammonia smell. Clinoptilolite's crystal carries a negative charge, so it pulls in the positively charged ammonium and swaps it for mineral ions it already holds. That swap, called ion exchange, locks the ammonium in the pores so it can't escape into the air as ammonia.
Top up over time
Because it stays in the turf, PETFILL keeps working after every incident rather than needing to be reapplied. Over time its pores fill up with ammonium, and weather and foot traffic wear the granules down, so a top-up brings it back to full strength.
Why not just use sand?
- Urine drains straight through to the backing and sub-base.
- Ammonia pools underneath, builds up and gasses off.
- No cooling effect.
- Cheapest to buy up front.
- Captures urine at the infill layer.
- Locks ammonia ions by ion exchange before they gas off.
- Holds moisture for evaporative cooling.
- 1 application lasts years.
A cooler surface, measured independently.
The same porous structure that traps ammonia also holds water. When rain, dew or irrigation lands on the turf, that held moisture evaporates and draws heat out of the surface.
Independent testing by Acousto-scan, an accredited lab that has worked for the AFL, Cricket Australia, FIFA and the ITF, measured an average 15°C surface-temperature drop on PETFILL-treated turf once combined with moisture.
A super-concentrate that kills bacteria across the whole turf.
Mix 1 to 10 with water
SYNTURF is a concentrate. Mix 1 part with 10 parts water to make a working solution for large turf areas, runs and commercial spaces.
Soaks into the backing
Spray the solution over the turf. A wetting agent lowers its surface tension, so it soaks through the pile and into the backing, where odour-causing bacteria collect.
Kills the bacteria
There, the disinfectant breaks down the outer layer that keeps the bacteria alive. It works across a broad range, including common bacteria such as E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas. With the bacteria killed, the odour they produce stops.
Dries in place
Once the contact time has passed, leave the solution to dry; there's no rinsing. The dead bacteria and residue break down and wash away with the next rain, dew or irrigation.
Plant enzymes break the problem down at the molecular level.
Soaks into the fibres
Spray PLUS+ onto the stain. Its low surface tension pulls it deep into carpet fibre or turf infill, past the surface layer that water alone can't get through.
Binds to urine crystals
Down there, its plant-based enzymes latch onto uric acid, the part of urine that dries into crystals and keeps smelling after the mess is cleaned up, along with the organic residue around it.
Breaks down the uric acid
The enzymes then break the uric acid and organic matter down into simpler compounds that don't smell.
Biodegrades when done
They keep working for 7–10 days, long enough to finish the crystals off, then biodegrade once there's nothing left to digest.
What people ask before they buy.
Why does the smell come back after I hose the turf?
Water spreads the uric-acid crystals and bacteria around, but it does not remove them. As things dry out, the smell returns. You need to break the crystals down with PLUS+ or kill the bacteria with SYNTURF, not just rinse.
Does an air freshener or scented spray do the same job?
Only until the scent fades. Masking sits one smell on top of another. smellBgone removes the source, so there is nothing left to cover.
Is it safe around pets and kids?
Yes. Everything is non-toxic and made in Australia. Keep pets off while you apply and let the area dry. For PETFILL, wear a dust mask and gloves while brushing it in, as a precaution against loose mineral dust.
How often do I need to reapply?
PLUS+ and SYNTURF are used as needed, incident by incident or as a regular turf sanitise. PETFILL is built into the turf and lasts years from 1 application. Top it up as weather and wear use up its capacity.
Which product do I actually need?
Spot spills and stains indoors or out: PLUS+. Sanitising a whole lawn, run or commercial area: SYNTURF. Stopping turf odour before it starts, from installation: PETFILL. Many people put PETFILL in the turf and keep PLUS+ or SYNTURF on hand for whatever lands on top.
